MONTREAL TRIP DAY 1: MORE BIKING, LESS EATING

The first day of our adventure was going to be our longest ride of the trip. We planned on going 155km from Toronto to Trenton, figuring a big push at the start would get us off to a good start. The blog post today is going to be more about biking than food, as seven hours of our day were spent biking (and nothing we ate today was noteworthy unfortunately).
Our route for the trip was to mostly stick to Highway 2 the entire way to Montreal. The highway zigs and zags at some places so it is not a straight route entirely, but pretty straightforward nonetheless.
In terms of what we packed, we winged it as this was our first multi day tour. For our bike we brought spare tubes, small toolkit, small pump and that was about it!
Starting out, we were feeling great. We went 60km before we stopped for lunch at Subway. Getting out of the city is always the worst, having to stop and start at traffic lights constantly really slows you down. Once you get out to Oshawa though it is pretty much smooth sailing!
We stopped again in Port Hope for a snack and a break. There was a coffee shop called "Dreamer's Cafe" which looked really cute! We went in to grab a cookie and a muffin and it was almost unbelievable how slow the service was. When we finally paid and went outside to eat, only to notice there was mould on top of the muffin! Yuck! We were refunded of course, but without an apology which was a pity.I still ate the cookie, which was pretty good.
Upon arriving in Trenton we checked into our Airbnb accommodation and then headed to a local pub to grab some dinner. With day one complete, I cannot say anything overly exciting happened today. The ride was great and we did not run into any issues, let's hope tomorrow goes the same way!
