Royaltea: the trendy new drink and dessert spot in Scarborough. The big thing that is drawing people (like myself) in, is their bubble tea served in a light bulb glass. Photos of this drink have been flooding my Instagram feed I just had to give it a try!

It was difficult to find information about Royaltea. They do not have a google listing and the only social media I could find was their Instagram. I had to comment on one of their pictures to get the hours of operation.

Anyway, I figured it out and we made it there. We went mid afternoon on a Sunday and it was pretty busy. There were no tables available when we walked in but the place was big and figured one would clear soon. The restaurant has wood decor and a big light up sign on the wall featuring their name.

Royaltea has an extensive menu of drinks, and a smaller menu of dessert items such as bubble waffles and ice cream. The light bulb bubble tea was dine-in only (a dollar more than the same tea in a plastic takeaway cup), and I went ahead and ordered it.

The cashier gave me a weird look and informed me I could only get it if I was eating in. I told him I was and his response was "There are no more tables". I am still not sure why he was trying to discourage me from ordering it. I told him i could stand and he put my order through mentioning it would be 10 minutes, a seemingly long wait for a drink.

As I waited, tables cleared and we were able to sit down. It ended up taking closer to 15 minutes for my drink to be ready. The portion was a decent size, but I was underwhelmed by the taste. It tasted like other bubble teas I have had for a third of the price.

The glasses are a really neat idea, I will give them that, but the customer service and product were not up to par. They have a promotion going on where if you get 30 likes on a photo you share from Royaltea, you get a free drink. This would probably be the only reason I would give them another shot.
