MAHA'S

This was one place I had been wanting to try for a long time. Egyptian food is not something I eat very often (or ever really... I do not think I could name another Egyptian Restaurant in the city) but I had heard great things about Maha's, and the "Mind Blowing Chicken" was calling my name.

I read online reviews before we went, and found a lot of complaints about the small dining area and consequently, long wait times to be seated. Being a Tuesday, I took a risk and decided a reservation was not necessary.

And I was right! Although the restaurant was busy, there were a couple tables available, and we chose to sit outside on the patio. The service was a little lacking I must admit. It took a while before we were brought our menus, even longer before we were offered water, and longer still until our order was taken. I went ahead and ordered the "Mind Blowing Chicken" I had been dreaming about all day, and was only then informed they were not serving it today.

Maybe it is my fault for being so fixated on one item and not coming with a backup plan, but I was still let down. I understand things happen, and not everything can be available every day, but being informed of menu changes before you are ready to order is my expectation of any restaurant.

I settled on the "The Max" instead:

Made to satisfy any craving, the Max is loaded with our charred balady bread, stuffed with foole, 2 pieces of falafel, a sliced boiled egg, sweet vidalia onions and drizzled with our homemade tehina sauce.

Despite the set back, the food was amazing. Max ordered the "Cairo Classic" and we were both extremely impressed. As I mentioned before, I do not have Egyptian food often, and everything I was tasting was so unique. A lot of the words on the menu were foreign to me, and I am not usually an adventurous eater, but I am glad I tried this place out.

I will definitely be back to try the "Mind Blowing Chicken" (fingers crossed it will be available). I hope the service is a bit better on my next visit, but overall we had a good experience.
